Job summary

Combined Metal Industries (CMI) invites early-career professionals to join the Operations Leadership Trainee program in Cambridge, Ontario. This new-grad track is designed to fast‑track your move into a leadership role within our fast-growing metal recycling operations.

You will gain hands-on experience across safety, production processes, people leadership, and continuous improvement while shadowing Operations Leaders and taking ownership of selected projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Operations Management or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Willingness to work on the plant floor and learn the business.
  • Proactive problem solving and teamwork.
  • Leadership potential with a growth mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow and support Operations Leaders to understand site workflows.
  • Lead projects to optimize productivity and reduce waste.
  • Develop leadership skills by managing teams in real time.
  • Collaborate with Fleet, Maintenance, Sales and Process Improvement departments.

Location: CAMBRIDGE

Expected Salary: $55,000- $70,000 Range

About The Program

The Leadership Trainee, Yard Operations Program is designed to fast-track your development into a leadership role within our operations team. Over the course of several months, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in all aspects of operations, including:

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring a safe work environment while meeting regulatory standards.
  • Production Processes: Learning the ins and outs of our recycling and manufacturing operations, including hand on experience in all facets of our operations.
  • People Leadership: Managing and motivating diverse teams to achieve excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Driving efficiency and innovation across departments.
What You’ll Do
  • Shadow and support Operations Leaders to understand site-specific workflows and challenges.
  • Take ownership of different projects including, optimizing productivity and reducing waste.
  • Develop key leadership skills by managing people and teams in real-time.
  • Build cross-functional knowledge by collaborating with departments like Fleet & Logistics, Maintenance, Sales, and Business Process Improvement.
