Job summary

Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) in Brantford, Ontario, invites applications for an Occupational Therapist. The role involves comprehensive assessment and management of patients with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions across inpatient and allied health settings, including stroke and rehab units.

The incumbent will work within an interdisciplinary team, develop treatment plans, educate patients and families, and participate in program committees.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university is required.
• Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario is required.
• Master’s degree in occupational therapy is preferred.
• Eligible for membership in OSOT and CAOT is required.
• Current BCLS/HCP certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the development of care, treatment and discharge plan of patients.
• Assess patients to determine strengths and weaknesses cognitively, perceptually, physically, and psycho-emotionally.
• Complete formal cognitive and functional assessments (MoCA, ALFA, FIM).
• Develop treatment plans for enhanced functioning, safety and independence.
• Educate and communicate progress, therapy plans, exercises, mobility and equipment needs to patients.
• Set up and prepare therapy programs and delegate activities per COTO guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team in verbal and written formats.
• Maintain workload statistics and participate in documentation procedures.
• Participate on committees (e.g. Wound Care, Quality Council).
