Job summary

Sobkow Technologies Inc. is seeking a Financial Officer to oversee the financial administration for a Manitoba municipality. The role focuses on protecting assets, risk management, and confidential handling of information.

You will guide budgeting, reporting, and financial governance alongside the CAO and Council. Ideal candidates have post-secondary finance education, municipal finance experience, and familiarity with computerized accounting systems.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in finance or related field.
• CPA designation asset; CMA considered asset; willingness to pursue professional designations encouraged.
• Experience in municipal finance or similar leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of computerized accounting systems and financial reporting.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Oversees municipal financial operations, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial records, taxation systems, assessment rolls, general ledger, billing, collections and tax sales processes.
• Prepares monthly financial statements, reconciliations, trial balances, and other financial reports in compliance with The Municipal Act and regulatory requirements.
• Monitors budgets, expenditures, investments, capital projects, and grant reporting to support sound financial management and long-term planning.
• Oversees daily financial administration including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, tax billing and collection, asset management, and municipal insurance functions.
• Coordinates year-end audit process with external auditors and ensures accurate GST reporting, payroll remittances, and regulatory filings.
• Assists in preparation and presentation of annual operating and capital budgets and provides financial guidance and policy recommendations to the CAO and Council.
