Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Mine Waste Engineer in Ontario (Sudbury/ North Bay region). You will design and assess mine waste facilities, including tailings storage and waste rock dumps, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes geotechnical analyses, environmental considerations, and development of management plans in line with regulations and client objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/geotechnical/mining; master's degree is an asset.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in mine waste management, tailings engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related field.
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration with PEO.
  • Applied knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles including tailings facility design, waste rock management, stability assessment, seepage analysis, and construction oversight.
  • Proficiency with GeoStudio and related geotechnical analysis software.

Responsibilities

  • Design mine waste facilities, including tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps, to support safe, sustainable mining operations.
  • Deliver geotechnical and environmental assessments, including stability and seepage analyses, that strengthen facility integrity and inform confident decisions.
  • Develop mine waste management plans aligned with client objectives, environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and recognized industry standards.
  • Monitor facility performance, evaluate data, and recommend practical improvements that manage risk and support responsible operations.
  • Produce clear, data-driven technical reports and documentation that translate complex findings into actionable guidance for clients and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with geologists, environmental scientists, water resources engineers, contractors, and clients through project planning, design, construction, and execution.
