Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Mine Waste Engineer based in the Sudbury or North Bay area to contribute to the design, assessment, construction, and monitoring of mine waste facilities. You will apply geotechnical engineering and environmental insight to deliver safe, sustainable solutions that meet regulatory and client requirements, working with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Based in the Sudbury or North Bay area, you'll contribute to the design, assessment, construction, and performance monitoring of mine waste facilities, including tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you'll apply geotechnical engineering and environmental insight to deliver safe, sustainable solutions that meet client, regulatory, and industry requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Your Impact

Design mine waste facilities, including tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps, to support safe, sustainable mining operations.

Deliver geotechnical and environmental assessments, including stability and seepage analyses, that strengthen facility integrity and inform confident decisions.

Develop mine waste management plans aligned with client objectives, environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and recognized industry standards.

Monitor facility performance, evaluate data, and recommend practical improvements that manage risk and support responsible operations.

Produce clear, data-driven technical reports and documentation that translate complex findings into actionable guidance for clients and stakeholders.

Collaborate with geologists, environmental scientists, water resources engineers, contractors, and clients through project planning, design, construction, and execution.

The Skills That Set You Apart

A bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical, mining, or a related engineering discipline; a master's degree is an asset.

5–7 years of relevant experience in mine waste management, tailings engineering, geotechnical engineering, or a related field.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.

Applied knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, including tailings storage facility design, waste rock management, stability assessment, seepage analysis, and construction oversight.

Proficiency with relevant geotechnical analysis software, including GeoStudio, to develop defensible engineering assessments and recommendations.

Working knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and industry standards applicable to mine waste facilities in Ontario and Canada.

Experience coordinating technical scopes and collaborating across engineering, environmental, water resources, and construction disciplines to support project outcomes.

Residence in, or ability to work from, the Sudbury or North Bay area, with the ability to travel to project and mine sites as required.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $98,800 - $130,800

MB & ON: $90,100 - $124,100

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $89,200 - $118,500
