Job summary

Tolko Industries Ltd. is seeking a Mill Stores Purchaser for our Vernon, BC area operations. This role supports inventory and purchasing activities to keep maintenance and operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • Experience purchasing and maintaining inventory for maintenance and operations teams.
  • 3–5+ years in managing large inventories, focusing on optimization and cycle counting.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations and forest industry equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inventory and non-inventory buying activities including receiving, warehousing, issuing and analysis.
  • Manage division materials and operating supplies inventory levels and accuracy.
  • Work within budgets, meet deadlines and ensure cost-effective availability of materials.
  • Negotiate fair pricing and foster good relations with suppliers and sales representatives.
  • Perform 100% cycle counting and reconcile overstock where needed.
  • Collaborate with planning and maintenance to optimize inventory usage and remove dead stock.
  • Obtain internal approvals for purchases and keep records for audit purposes.
  • Partner with mill departments to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Support multiple sites and operate safely per rules and policies.

We are looking for a Mill Stores Purchaser to join our innovative lumber mill located near Vernon, British Columbia. Our Lavington Division is where Tolko’s story began over 60 years ago. Today, at Lavington, we safely and sustainably produce 238 million board feet of lumber per year for customers around the world so they can build their homes and their communities.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
  • Certificate in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM), Supply Chain Procurement Certificate or Warehouse Certificate through the Supply Chain Management Association (ASCM), or equivalent.
  • Experience purchasing and maintaining inventory in support of maintenance and operation teams.
  • 3-5+ years' experience maintaining large inventory needs focusing on inventory optimization and accurate cycle counting.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, the application and maintenance of forest industry equipment, certification for transportation of dangerous materials.
  • General understanding of accounting and strong negotiating skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a keen eye for the small details.
  • Proven experience in being a valued member of an inventory and purchasing environment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environmentand ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Experience driving a forklift, or a willingness to learn.

In this role you will:
  • Conduct inventory and non-inventory buying activities, including encompassing the receiving, warehousing, issuing and analysis of inventory and non-stores related materials required in the operation.
  • Contribute to the management of the division’s materials andoperating supplies inventory leveland accuracy.
  • Work within budgets, meet deadlines and ensure that materials and supplies are both cost effective and available when needed.
  • Negotiate fair and equitable pricing and byencouraging good relations with suppliers, contractors, and sales representatives.
  • Conduct the 100% cycle counting programfor the division and proactively identifying and reconciling overstock.
  • Responsible forcollaborating with planning and maintenancetooptimize inventoryusage and remove dead stock.
  • Ensure appropriateinternal approvals are obtainedfrom end users for purchases and records are keptfor audit purposes.
  • Partner with departments across the millto deliver excellent customer service.
  • Supportingmultiplesites.
  • Operatein asafe mannerin accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies.
