Job summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a Microbiology Prep Room and Lab Assistant to support Lab Technicians in Biology I and the Science Teaching Complex. This permanent, full-time role involves preparing lab materials, sterilizing waste, stocking supplies, and assisting with first/second year undergraduate courses.

Responsibilities include handling autoclave operations, glassware prep, and aseptic plating, while maintaining inventory and safety procedures throughout the lab spaces.

Qualifications

• Two years’ related experience and intermediate microbiology techniques.
• Teaching Assistant experience is an asset.
• Strong written and spoken communication required.

Responsibilities

• Support Lab Technicians and ensure daily operation of Microbiology Preparation Rooms.
• Prepare media, reagents, cultures; pour plates; clean up labs after sessions.
• Maintain inventory and safety of equipment and supplies.
• Assist with undergraduate course materials and demo plates.
