Job summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a Laboratory Support professional to assist Lab Technicians and guarantee the smooth operation of the Microbiology Preparation Rooms in Biology I and the Science Teaching Complex. This permanent, full-time role also supports one undergraduate course.

You will decontaminate waste, clean glassware, stock supplies, operate autoclave and other equipment, and manage inventories.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or college diploma in biology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years’ experience in a related field with intermediate knowledge of microbiology techniques.
• Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Supports Lab Technicians and ensures smooth daily operation of Microbiology Preparation Rooms.
• Assists with undergraduate course lab activities and prepares materials (media, reagents, cultures).
• Maintains equipment and chemical inventory; loads/unloads autoclave and dishwasher; organizes glassware storage.
