Job summary

University of Waterloo is seeking a Core Facility Technician to oversee day-to-day operation and renewal of core facilities and instruments in the Biology labs. You will interact with faculty, staff and students to assess experimental needs and troubleshoot issues, while ensuring safe operation and compliance.

Responsibilities include calibrating equipment, training users, managing service contracts, ordering supplies and supporting undergraduate course labs.

Qualifications

• BSc in Biology is required; MSc preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience: at least 3 years setting up student lab courses and operating biochemistry/microbiology equipment.
• Ability to train users and troubleshoot equipment.
• Strong knowledge of safety and handling of hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation and upkeep of core facilities and instruments.
• Interact with faculty, staff and students to assess needs and troubleshoot issues.
• Prepare materials for undergraduate labs and assist instructors with experiments.
• Maintain inventory, service requests and safety documentation.
• Update website content and monitor the online booking portal.
