Job summary

Shared Hospital Laboratory (SHL) is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the Microbiology Department in the specimen receiving area. You will plant specimens to media, respond to results requests, and assist the Senior Technologist and Operations Manager with routine microbiology tasks.

Preferred qualifications include a Michener Institute certificate or equivalent, 6 months of bacteriology experience, and knowledge of MALDI, Kirby Bauer and AST using Bruker and Phoenix instruments.

Qualifications

• 6 months of bacteriology experience with knowledge of media and incubation times for automated microbiology workflows.
• Familiarity with MALDI, Kirby Bauer, AST using Bruker and Phoenix.
• Demonstrated problem recognition and problem solving skills.
• Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in the specimen receiving area and plant specimens to appropriate media.
• Answer results requests and support the Senior Technologist and Operations Manager with microbiology duties.
