Job summary

University of Waterloo invites applications for a Biology Lab Technician and Core Facility Coordinator. You will oversee day-to-day operation and long-term planning of core facilities, interact with faculty, staff and students, and ensure safe, effective execution of undergraduate lab components.

You’ll operate and maintain instruments, train users, update documentation, and support teaching labs while coordinating with the core instrument committee and instructors.

Qualifications

• BSc in Biology is required.
• Experience setting up student lab courses is essential.
• Strong knowledge of flow cytometry and sequencing technologies.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot a wide range of laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and safely operate core instruments (flow cytometer, sequencers, etc.).
• Train users on safe operation of instruments.
• Prepare materials for labs and assist in course development.
• Process course marks and TA evaluations; manage safety records.
• Support safety and inventory management for core facilities.
