Job summary

InterPro Pipe & Steel Inc. is seeking a Melt Shop Supervisor to drive safe, efficient production within the melt shop, caster, and steel yard. The role oversees coordination of repairs and maintenance, directs unionized staff, and ensures adherence to safety and environmental standards.

The position emphasizes hands-on problem solving, scheduling, and accountability for timekeeping, safety investigations, and performance reporting to support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate repairs, direct production activities and preventative maintenance with the Maintenance department.
• Coordinate and direct activities of unionized employees in the Melt Shop, Caster, and Steel Yard; sometimes direct Maintenance personnel.
• Supervise unionized employees including setting expectations, planning, training, coaching, discipline and attendance management.
• Enforce systems, policies, and procedures for safety, quality, and environmental footprint of operations.
• Provide hands-on problem solving to address production issues and make independent decisions when needed.
• Oversee safety processes and evacuations, ensuring safe work environment.
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling (overtime, vacations, absenteeism, layoffs), times entered in Kronos, reports, toolbox talks, Gemba walks, and data reporting.

At InterPro Pipe & Steel, the Melt Shop Supervisor is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and safety standards within the melt shop, directly impacting efficiency of our processes and overall success of steelmaking.

• Coordinate repairs, direct production activities and preventative maintenance with the Maintenance department.
• Coordinate and direct activities of unionized employees working throughout the Melt Shop, Caster, and Steel Yard; on occasion direct Maintenance personnel.
• Supervision of unionized employees, which includes, but is not limited to: communication of job expectations, planning, training, coaching/counseling, performance and attendance management, and issuing discipline.
• Enforce systems, policies, and procedures as they pertain to the safety, quality, and environmental footprint of operations.
• Responsible for utilizing a hands‑on approach to effectively address technical and non-technical issues related to production, by recognizing potential problems and making critical decisions independently.
• Assure that safety processes, procedures, and protocol to ensure a safe work environment are being followed.
• Assist the safety team in safety investigations and organize and oversee emergency evacuations.
• Perform administrative activities such as scheduling (overtime, vacations, organizing the workforce as a result of absenteeism, layoffs, etc.), reviews employees times into the Kronos system, complete reports, conduct safety toolbox talks, Gemba walks, performance/ progress reports, compile data and various reports
