Job description
Overview

The MV VFD Expert is responsible for the technical support, troubleshooting, lifecycle support and commissioning support of medium voltage variable speed drive systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in MV VFD technologies, including AC drives, power electronics, and control systems, and involves collaboration with engineering, R&D, 3rd party supplies and field service teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability of drive systems across industrial applications.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the subject matter expert for complete MV VFD systems throughout Canada.
  • Provide order life cycle technical support to tendering, sales, engineering, and execution teams.
  • Define and implement solutions to meet customer requirements in terms of performance, quality, and timelines.
  • Experience with the design of MV drives and components such as transformers, switchgear, and cables.
  • Review simulation results, engineering designs, and test plans.
  • Perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of MV VFD systems for complex applications and/or for emergency breakdowns.
  • Support retrofit projects and upgrades of existing drive systems.
  • Participate in acceptance testing.
  • Manage installation and replacement projects.
  • Address complex VFD issues that require innovative and practical solution.
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis in coordinating with global subject matter experts and local team.
  • Coordinate with procurement and engineering teams.
  • Ensure timely delivery and after-sales support.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and technicians.
  • Develop documentation, design practices, and work desk instructions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Certified technician, Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • 5+ years of field experience in MV VFD systems, including programming, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of MV power distribution and protection systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of MV drives and components such as transformers, switchgear, and cables.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments.
