Come work as a Clinical Secretary with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at the Eye Care Centre at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC!

Within the context of a client and family-centred care model, position provides clinical scheduling and medical secretarial support to the Eye Care Centre by methods such as scheduling and booking patient appointments in accordance with various health professionals' schedules, making adjustments to patient schedules in the event of cancellations,

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, graduation from an approved program as a medical secretary, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 45 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and book patient appointments in accordance with health professionals' schedules.
  • Make adjustments to patient schedules in case of cancellations.
  • Coordinate documentation required for patient visits.
  • Transcribe medical dictation such as diagnostic interpretation reports and fluorescein angiogram reports.
  • Type technical and non-technical material using intermediate word processing software.
  • Maintain records on patient visits and related material.
  • Prepare billing information and standard statistical reports using spreadsheet software.
  • Act as clinic receptionist according to established procedures.

Job Summary

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
