Job summary

BPA Toronto is seeking a versatile Mechanical Technician to contribute to both technical design and drafting for building projects. You will transform ideas into practical, coordinated mechanical solutions and clear documents, collaborating with engineers, designers and project teams.

This role involves producing drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, developing plans for HVAC, hydronics, and plumbing, and supporting site surveys, coordination meetings, and junior staff development.

Qualifications

  • College diploma (DEC) in mechanical/building engineering or related field.
  • 5–15 years of mechanical building design experience in engineering consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, hydronics, plumbing and fire protection.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical drawings and models using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Develop plans, sections, details, and specifications for HVAC, hydronic, and plumbing.
  • Perform site surveys and document existing mechanical installations.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings to identify constructability issues.
  • Support engineers with calculations, reports and cost estimates.
  • Review drawings for quality and compliance with codes.
  • Mentor junior resources and contribute to process improvements.
  • Assist tendering, construction administration, and closeout activities.
  • Review shop drawings and equipment submittals.

The opportunity

BPA Toronto (previously TMP) is looking for a versatile Mechanical Technician who enjoys being involved in both the technical design and drafting sides of building projects. In this role, you will help transform ideas into practical, coordinate d mechanical solutions and clear documents, while working alongside engineers, designers and project teams.


You will contribute to a diverse range of projects, including institutional, commercial, office and cultural buildings. You will play an active role in moving projects forward to a successful delivery . You will also be able to share your experience, support and coach junior team members, and help foster a positive working environment.

Your daily impact


  • Prepare and develop mechanical building drawings and models using Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Produce plans, sections, details, schedules and specifications for ventilation, heating, cooling, hydronic and plumbing systems.

  • Perform site surveys and document existing mechanical installations.

  • Participate in project coordination meetings and help identify potential conflicts or constructability issues early in the design process.

  • Support engineers and project teams in the development of technical solutions, calculations, reports and cost estimates.

  • Review drawings and models to ensure quality, consistency and compliance with project requirements, codes and standards.

  • Help guide and support junior resources and contribute to the continuous improvement of team standards and practices.

  • Support tendering, construction administration, and closeout activities.

  • Review shop drawings and equipment submittals.


Your profile


  • College Diploma (DEC) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Engineering, or a related field

  • 5 - 15 years of relevant experience in mechanical building design within an engineering consulting firm or a similar environment.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronics and fire protection systems.

  • Strong proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both written and spoken.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement

  • Clear communicator with the ability to simplify technical information

  • Ability to analyze technical challenges and develop practical solutions.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • High attention to detail and strong commitment to quality.

Salary range: $75,000 – $105,000 per year, with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of the role and geographic location.
