Job summary

BPA, an engineering firm with a Mississauga presence, is seeking a Mechanical Drafter for a four-month contract with possible extension. You will prepare mechanical drawings and construction documents for institutional, commercial, industrial, and residential projects, under the guidance of engineers and project teams.

Responsibilities include producing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection drawings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • 1–5 years of drafting experience with mechanical building systems.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.

As part of our long-standing partnership with Pratt & Whitney Canada, BPA provides embedded technical support through a dedicated multidisciplinary team working directly within our client's facilities. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Drafter to join our Mississauga team for a four-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.

Overview

As a Mechanical Drafter, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of mechanical building systems. Working closely with engineers, designers, and project teams, you will prepare technical drawings and construction documents for a variety of institutional, commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

Your attention to detail, technical expertise, and proficiency in AutoCAD will contribute to the successful completion of projects that meet client expectations, applicable codes, and industry standards.

Key Responsabilities

  • Prepare and revise detailed mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Produce plans, sections, details, and schematics for:
    • HVAC systems
    • Plumbing systems
    • Fire protection systems
    • Other building mechanical systems
  • Incorporate design changes and markups received from engineers and project managers.
  • Coordinate drawing layouts with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, structural, architectural, and civil disciplines.
  • Ensure drawing accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company drafting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of permit, tender, and construction documentation.
  • Participate in quality control reviews of drawings and documentation.
  • Maintain project files and drawing records according to company procedures.
  • Support site surveys, field verification, and as-built documentation when required.

Qualifications

Education
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
Experience
  • 1 to 5 years of relevant drafting experience in mechanical building systems.
  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment is considered a strong asset.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of mechanical building systems and construction practices.
  • Understanding of applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Salary range: $55 000,00 – $65 000,00 per year, with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of the role and geographic location.
