Job summary

BPA is seeking a Mechanical Building Engineer in Ottawa to lead mechanical building systems design, including HVAC and plumbing, and to collaborate on energy-efficient solutions. You will supervise projects from concept to construction, interact with clients, and help create high-performing built environments in a flexible, hybrid work setting.

Requirements: degree in mechanical engineering, 5+ years’ experience, PEO in good standing, proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit and HAP, and strong

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (specializing in building) is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
  • Member in good standing of PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit and HAP heat loads software.

Responsibilities

  • Technical supervision and design of mechanical building systems from concept to construction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for institutional, office, commercial and residential projects.
  • Engage with clients to understand needs and manage relationships.
  • Survey existing installations and analyze building systems.
  • Prepare client reports and oversee project execution.

Join BPA’s growing team as a Mechanical Building Engineer based in Ottawa! In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, practical, and energy-efficient mechanical solutions. Your daily impact

  • Technical supervision, coordination, verification and design of various mechanical building systems projects from concept design to completion of construction.
  • Work as part of a team to carry out building-related mechanical systems design projects for various sectors (institutional, office, commercial, cultural and residential).
  • Connect with clients to understand their needs.
  • Survey existing installations.
  • Analyze, design and adapt building-related installations.
  • Prepare various types of client reports.
  • Manage the project and the relationships with the client.

Your profile

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (specializing in building) or building engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
  • Member in good standing of PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP heat loads calculations software.
  • Capability to write reports, complete site visits, and design mechanical and plumbing systems with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative spirit and positive leadership to influence technical decisions and client relationships.
  • Eligibility to get a Government of Canada Reliability Status

Hourly salary range: $40 – $54 per hour, with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of the role, and geographic location.
