Job summary

Stuart Olson Inc. invites applications from experienced Mechanical Superintendent to lead trades on a large complex industrial site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

You will oversee maintenance, projects, and turnaround activities, ensuring safe, efficient execution and adherence to site procedures. You will plan, coordinate, and execute work with client representatives, mentor field crews, manage budgets, and resolve execution barriers.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certification and strong mechanical background.
  • 10-15 years Industrial maintenance and turnaround experience.
  • 5 years experience in a leadership role at a Superintendent level.
  • Valid Drivers license.
  • Solid understanding of OH&S regulations.
  • Evidence of exceptional leadership skills and ability to influence, mentor and coach.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities capable of handling pressure and challenges.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive.
  • CSTS 2020, CSTS 09 or PST.
  • Energy Safety Canada Confined Space.
  • Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection.
  • Able to work under SBA mask preferred.
  • Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily mechanical maintenance activities across piping, millwright, welding, and specialty mechanical scopes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute work with client representatives and site stakeholders.
  • Ensure scopes are ready to execute by confirming workforce, materials, equipment, permits, access, and work packages are in place.
  • Coordinate with operations, planning, engineering, QA/QC, safety, and contractors to remove execution barriers.
  • Set daily priorities and direct general forepersons, forepersons, and field crews.
  • Monitor progress, productivity, and schedule performance and communicate status to the client and project team.
  • Support planned and emergent maintenance activities as site priorities change.
  • Develop resource plans and assist with recruiting and workforce development.
  • Coach and mentor field supervision and craft personnel.
  • Provide cost management against established budgets.
  • Manage scope changes and field issues to support efficient execution.
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Support QA/QC activities, mechanical completion, turnover documentation, and return-to-service activities.

  • Provide cost management against established budgets.
  • Manage scope changes and field issues to support efficient execution.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations, site procedures, and company and client requirements.
  • Investigate safety incidents and property damage events, implement corrective actions, and complete incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Support QA/QC activities, mechanical completion, turnover documentation, and return-to-service activities.

Qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Working at heights, sometimes in a confined space
  • Working in and around noise and dust, both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects
  • Must be clean shaven
  • Personal safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots,
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 lbs. with assistance
