Job summary

Vortex Aquatic Structures International in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and bring to production innovative aquatic play products. You will work with R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing to move concepts from idea to validated designs, with emphasis on manufacturability and safety standards.

Ideal candidates have a Mechanical Eng degree and 5+ years in mechanical design, proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, and experience with DFM and Stage-Gate

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and OIQ membership.
• Experience with structured product development processes (Stage‑Gate).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities from initial design through validation and production launch.
• Transform concepts into detailed technical designs, including calculations, material selection, 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to ensure cost-effective production.
• Develop innovative mechanisms and assembly methods while exploring new manufacturing technologies.
• Leverage AI tools to improve production drawings accuracy and speed.
• Plan and oversee prototype testing, validation, and risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards (ASTM, CSA, ADA, EN).
• Lead technical design reviews and mentor colleagues.

Mechanical Engineer

Location: Pointe-Claire, Quebec | Hybrid

We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about product innovation, technical excellence, and bringing creative ideas to life. Working closely with our R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing teams, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative aquatic play products, from initial design through validation and production.

What You’ll Do

• Lead mechanical engineering activities from initial design through validation and production launch.
• Transform creative concepts into detailed technical designs, including engineering calculations, material selection, 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure products are efficient, reliable, and cost‐effective to manufacture.
• Develop innovative mechanisms and assembly methods while exploring new manufacturing technologies.
• Leverage AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and accuracy of production drawings.
• Plan and oversee prototype testing, product validation, and technical risk assessments.
• Ensure products meet safety, durability, and applicable industry standards (ASTM, CSA, ADA, EN).
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve technical challenges and improve product quality.

What You Bring

Must‑Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and membership with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development, ideally in manufacturing.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including steel, polymers, and composite materials.
• Experience with structured product development processes, such as Stage‑Gate.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, technical judgment, and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Fluency in French and English, written and spoken. (Intermediate level of English is required)
• Availability to travel approximately 10–15%.

Proficiency in English is required for this role as approximately 40% of the responsibilities involve regular communication with stakeholders based in the United States and Europe.

Nice‑to‑Haves

• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, or DFMEA.
• Experience designing outdoor, recreational, or other products intended for heavy public use.
