Job summary

Vortex is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Pointe-Claire-based team. You will drive design from concept to production, enforce DFM principles, and validate parts with prototyping and testing across R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with OIQ certification, 5+ years’ experience, and expertise in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. French/English fluency and 10–15% travel are expected, with hybrid work options available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and OIQ membership.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or product development.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) for steel, polymers, and composites.
• Experience with structured product development processes such as Stage-Gate.
• Strong problem-solving, technical judgment, and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Fluency in French and English (spoken and written); travel 10–15%.

• Plan and supervise prototype testing, validation, and risk assessments.

• Lead design reviews, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve challenges.

Mechanical Engineer

Location: Pointe-Claire, Quebec | Hybrid

We're looking for aMechanical Engineer who is passionate about product innovation, technical excellence, and bringing creative ideas to life.

Working closely with our R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing teams, you'll play a key role in developing innovative aquatic play products, from initial design through validation and production.

What You’ll Do

• Lead mechanical engineering activities from initial design through validation and production launch.
• Transform creative concepts into detailed technical designs, including engineering calculations, material selection, 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure products are efficient, reliable, and cost-effective to manufacture.
• Develop innovative mechanisms and assembly methods while exploring new manufacturing technologies.
• Leverage AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and accuracy of production drawings.
• Plan and oversee prototype testing, product validation, and technical risk assessments.
• Ensure products meet safety, durability, and applicable industry standards (ASTM, CSA, ADA, EN).
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and improve product quality.

What You Bring

Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and membership with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development, ideally in manufacturing.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including steel, polymers, and composite materials.
• Experience with structured product development processes, such as Stage-Gate.
• Strong problem-solving skills, technical judgment, and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Fluency in French and English, written and spoken. (Intermediate level of English is required)
• Availability to travel approximately 10–15%.

Proficiency in English is required for this role as approximately 40% of the responsibilities involve regular communication with stakeholders based in the United States and Europe.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, or DFMEA.
• Experience designing outdoor, recreational, or other products intended for heavy public use.
