Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) for our Kimberley facility. You will own the design process from concept to detailed engineering, prototyping and final build support, delivering bespoke solutions across diverse industries.

Using 3D CAD to create complex assemblies and BOMs, you will perform stress, load and motion analyses, and collaborate with electrical, software and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing special purpose machinery or automation equipment.
• Expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) and PLM/PDM systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanisms, pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems integration.
• Proven ability to innovate and solve complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design conceptual layouts and detailed engineering designs for special purpose machinery.
• Utilize 3D CAD to create complex assemblies and BOMs.
• Perform stress, load and motion analyses to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with electrical, software and manufacturing teams to integrate all aspects of the machine.
• Oversee prototype development and testing, troubleshoot issues and modify designs.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning in Kimberley.
