Placements24 seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) for our Kimberley facility. You will own the design process from concept to detailed engineering, prototyping and final build support, delivering bespoke solutions across diverse industries.

Using 3D CAD to create complex assemblies and BOMs, you will perform stress, load and motion analyses, and collaborate with electrical, software and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing special purpose machinery or automation equipment.
• Expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) and PLM/PDM systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanisms, pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems integration.
• Proven ability to innovate and solve complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design conceptual layouts and detailed engineering designs for special purpose machinery.
• Utilize 3D CAD to create complex assemblies and BOMs.

About the Role

You will take ownership of the design process from initial client consultation and concept development through to detailed engineering, prototyping, and final build support. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee prototype development and testing phases, troubleshooting design issues and making necessary modifications.
• Provide technical support during the manufacturing and commissioning phases of the machinery in Kimberley.
