We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team, working on subsystems for various products, tools, and equipment, including wearables, mechanisms, and robotics. Candidates should have a solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and experience with simple, reliable design, ideally with proficiency in SolidWorks and product development consulting.

Position Responsibilities

1. Design and integrate complex mechanical systems, including mechanisms, plastic and metal parts, electronics, and sensors.
2. Develop solutions using injection-molded plastics, machined, 3D printed, off-the-shelf, and sheet metal parts.
3. Perform analyses such as finite element, thermal, root-cause, and tolerance analysis.
4. Manage assemblies, bill of materials, and create 2D drawings following GD&T standards.
5. Prototype design concepts for fit and function testing.
6. Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, and quality engineers to optimize designs.
7. Identify manufacturing methods for prototyping and production.
8. Evaluate prototypes and refine designs based on testing.
9. Organize and resolve technical issues efficiently.
10. Communicate regularly with clients and project management about project status, issues, and risks.
11. Coordinate with external partners like industrial designers and contract manufacturers.
12. Support on-site work in the Portland Metro area.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Strong understanding of 2D drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing considerations.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes like injection molding, sheet metal, machining, and rapid prototyping.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot system-level defects.
• Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, firmware, systems).
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Clear communication skills and ability to produce detailed reports.
• Positive attitude focused on client success; ethical and honest approach.

Preferred Skills

• Robotics and instrumentation design experience.
• Experience with mechatronics, electro-mechanical systems, motors, sensors, and electronics.
• Programming skills.
• Expertise in fluids analysis and handling.
• Experience with medical devices and quality systems.
• Knowledge of FEA, CFD, or other simulation tools.

• Salary range: $85K - $140K, based on experience and skills.
