About The Position

We are seeking a passionate Product Designer – Mechanical, reporting to the Engineering Manager, based in Vancouver, BC. Our headquarters in Vancouver develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As a Product Designer – Mechanical, you will be involved in product development, including design, verification, validation, launch, and support of products and components used in boat control systems. Your role involves developing and evaluating mechanical and electromechanical products to meet cost and functional targets.

Responsibilities
  1. Design assembly and components, including concept generation, 3D modeling, material selection, and stress analysis.
  2. Research and develop system solutions for market opportunities.
  3. Prepare design documentation such as drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  4. Utilize tools like QFD, CAD, DFMEA in accordance with ISO9001 standards.
  5. Participate in the full development cycle: requirements, design, development, validation, documentation, and support.
  6. Collaborate with multi-functional teams including management, manufacturing, supply chain, and production.
  7. Conduct design reviews and validation tests.
  8. Manage Bill of Materials for assemblies.
  9. Assist in “make versus buy” decisions for components.
  10. Develop project plans, coordinate activities, and report on progress.
  11. Interact with suppliers and represent Dometic professionally.

Skills & Requirements

The ideal candidate will have success in operational, engineering, or manufacturing environments, with the following qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric and PDMLink/Windchill or similar CAD tools
  • Strong MS Office skills; quick learner of new applications
  • Knowledge of volume production processes (casting, extrusions, molding, machining, welding)
  • Understanding of materials and coatings
  • Familiarity with MRP systems and engineering Bills of Materials
  • Design procedures, specifications, and simulation tools expertise
  • Ability to produce reliable, cost-effective industrial designs
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and experiments
  • Experience with motors, actuators, hydraulic gear pumps, cylinders, valves
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and test equipment
  • Awareness of safety regulations (UL, CSA, CE)
  • Knowledge of industry standards (SAE, ASTM, ISO) and ISO9001
  • Experience with QFD, FMEAs
