Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an experienced Overhead Crane Operator to join our industrial team in Calgary. You will operate mobile and overhead cranes, perform pre-operational inspections, and assist with rigging to ensure safe lifts in a heavy industrial setting.

You will follow engineered lift plans, communicate with spotters and supervisors, and participate in JHAs and toolbox talks to uphold top safety standards. The role requires reliability for overnight shifts and a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Hoisting Equipment Operator Certification for the appropriate crane class.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating cranes in industrial, construction, or energy operations.
  • Proven ability to operate mobile and overhead cranes safely in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience with rigging practices, including the selection and inspection of slings, shackles, and rigging hardware.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to safety regulations, lift plans, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow engineered lift plans and instructions from supervisors.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of lifts, equipment inspections, and safety records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support general lift crew duties when not operating the crane, including production support, material handling, and assisting team members as needed.
  • Perform general labor and production tasks such as assembly, packing, picking, and shipping and receiving when required.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely to move products and materials within the facility.
  • Use hand tools and related equipment to assist with assembly, general production, and construction-related tasks as directed.
  • Follow all site rules, policies, and procedures, including attendance at orientation, ongoing training, and evaluations.
  • Successfully complete a four-day orientation, including three days of classroom training and a fourth day of on-the-job evaluation and training, and meet the required performance standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new, clean industrial shop designed to support large-scale production and heavy lift operations. The facility operates with modern equipment, including mobile and overhead cranes, forklifts, RF scanners, and standard hand tools used in industrial, construction, and general production settings. The regular schedule for this position is an overnight shift from 9:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Monday through Friday. Employees receive eight hours of paid work per shift, with two paid 15-minute shuttle periods, one paid 15-minute rest break, and one unpaid 30-minute meal break incorporated into the schedule. New hires complete a four-day orientation, consisting of three days in the classroom and a fourth day dedicated to on-the-job evaluation and training, which must be successfully completed. Orientation sessions are offered on a 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. schedule or a 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. schedule, depending on assignment. The environment is structured, safety-focused, and highly organized, with clear procedures and expectations that support both productivity and employee well-being.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.81 - $35.81/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
