Maternity support workers are central to quality care and information provision working alongside midwives and the wider professional teams to achieve excellence in maternity care.
We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, flexible individuals to assist us to provide the best care at all times. This role is based at the John Radcliffe, supporting the team within the Outpatients department. The role is mainly Monday - Friday.
You will be required to complete clinical duties such as maternal observations, stocking up and some administrative duties. If you feel you have the qualities to suit the role and would like to make a difference, then consider joining our excellent service.
Please note: This role is not eligible for overseas sponsorship. It is predominately Monday - Friday. We do not offer term time only contracts due to the nature of our workload.
All new starters unless transferring internally within the Trust, will commence employment as a Band 2 Maternity Support Worker. Upon completion of mandatory training, Care Certificate and local competencies, staff will be uplifted to a Band 3 grade.
As a member of the maternity team you will support and closely work with registered midwives to deliver a high standard of care to women in a caring and safe environment. To work as part of the wider team in developing and maintaining services provided to women and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area. To maintain the dignity and privacy of all women and respect their right to confidentiality.
Here in Oxfordshire, we offer a unique set up of our Maternity Services with around 7500 babies born annually.
For those working with us, we have a substantial support network for staff, focusing on wellbeingand development. This includes a team of professional Midwifery Advocates, Wellbeing Champions, staff networks and a staff Maternity Psychologist. You will be supported by the Practice Development Team who provide regular study days and updates and support staff clinically. As a member of the maternity team, you will support and closely work with registered midwives and sonographers to deliver a high standard of care to women in a caring and safe environment. To work as part of the wider ward team in developing and maintaining services provided to women and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area. To maintain the dignity and privacy of all women and respect their right to confidentiality. To complete and maintain on an ongoing basis a generic and specific portfolio of clinical competencies and/or the Care Certificate as required. To review progress with line manager at regular intervals and through the appraisal process. Understand own level of responsibility, scope of practice and accountability in relation to registered staff. All policies must also be adhered to at all times.
All new in role, Nursing Assistants, Theatre Support Workers, Maternity Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners will be expected to achieve the Care Certificate within the first 12 weeks of employment if they have not already done so through previous employment. The Care Certificate consists of 15 standards that set out explicit learning outcomes, competences and standards of behaviour that are expected of a Nursing Assistant. The Oxford University Hospitals Support Worker Academy team deliver an enhanced and extended induction programme, this to facilitate the training and education required to maintain quality assurance, support and guidance to ensure timely completion and compliance.
