Job description

Marketing and Communications – Proposals and Business Development / Full Time / Hybrid

At DIALOG, we’re passionate about design. We believe it can and should meaningfully improve the wellbeing of communities – including those who inhabit them and the environment we share. We’ve come together because we see important challenges facing communities becoming increasingly complex and therefore best shared through diverse perspectives and expertise. We’re looking for motivated, proactive, and highly collaborative individuals who embody our spirit and can place DIALOG at the forefront of design thinking.

The Marketing and Business Development (M+BD) Manager for the Edmonton region will work closely with relevant Chairs, practice / region group members, marketing and communications team members, and other stakeholders. M+BD Managers lead in researching, developing, planning, and executing a cohesive and integrated growth strategy, reporting weekly to regional leaders and providing sound recommendations.

You will increase the studio’s profile, deepen community ties, expand networks, identify networking opportunities, craft compelling stories, and secure strategically aligned projects. Understanding local market needs and shifting conversations around architecture, engineering, and design will be key to leading regional discussions aligned with our strategic plan.

You will lead a local team and coordinate with global shared services. Responsibilities include spreading regional and practice-wide messages and keeping team members informed. The role may also encompass practice groups or disciplines to support, requiring active engagement with clients, industry, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a strategic, creative, and experienced communications and management professional capable of owning projects, working across all levels of the firm, and managing others effectively.

How you'll make a difference :

  • Research and understand Edmonton’s regional portfolio and opportunities; share insights with practice groups and MarCom team members.
  • Develop a regional M+BD strategy and plan, including budget and revenue targets, and work with Financial Operations to measure ROI and other metrics.
  • Support large pursuits and proposals, including content creation, graphic design, presentation preparation, and strategic support. Lead regional go / no-go decisions.
  • Maintain market pipeline data and client engagement information in CRM and other systems.
  • Coordinate award applications, project photography, conference participation, sponsorships, donations, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in or lead firm-hosted events and local partner meetings, focusing on regional business development and activity.
  • Collaborate with internal leads to support internal M+BD initiatives.
  • Utilize organizational, communication, and negotiation skills to grow the brand and secure projects. Provide presentation support.
  • Coach and develop a local M+BD team, ensuring strategy implementation and activity reporting.
  • Represent DIALOG at industry associations and participate in relevant groups.
  • Contribute to the future of the department as part of the senior M+BD team, aiming to lead in marketing, business development, and communications within the AEC industry.

Who you are :

  • Creative, capable of managing others, meeting deadlines, and handling multiple projects.
  • Strong business acumen with understanding of selling in B2B professional services.
  • Resolution-oriented, skilled at finding common ground and aligning teams.
  • Adaptable to change, able to find order in chaos.
  • Informed about global and local events, leveraging opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Experienced in winning business and thriving in owner / partner-led environments.
  • Self-starter who seeks feedback and leads projects with minimal supervision.
  • Judgmental, tactful, diplomatic, positive, and able to work under pressure.
  • Comfortable in a matrixed environment, integrating sector plans into regional strategies.
  • Well-connected regionally with a proven track record of generating opportunities.
  • Quick learner of DIALOG’s portfolio, practice areas, and capabilities.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • University degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive business experience, including 2+ years managing teams.
  • 6+ years in the A / E industry in a similar role.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and CRM systems.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven success in strategic marketing planning and execution during change.
  • Expertise in proposal design, branding, and layout.
  • Experience developing and managing staff at various career stages.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
