Job summary

The Town of Ajax is seeking Inclusion Support Staff for the Recreation & Culture department on a temporary basis. This role supports children, youth and young adults with special needs within recreation programs, ensuring safety, dignity, and an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include planning adaptive activities, assisting with personal care, supplying lifts/transfers, and coordinating with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 9 months to 1 year of experience.
• Experience with programs and services delivery for youth with special needs preferred.
• Previous experience working/volunteering with children, youth, or young adults with special needs.
• Strong behaviour management skills and dignity-centered personal care.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR C (must be obtained by Mar 2, 2027).
• HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (must be obtained by Mar 2, 2027).
• Clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector (current within 6 months).
• Must be available for the full week of March Break (Mar 15-19, 2027) and related trainings.
• Nice to Have: Post-secondary education in related fields asset.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements a daily/weekly action plan to fully accommodate the support needs of participants.
• Develops weekly professional and participant-specific actionable goals.
• Assists in adaptive programming for participants with special needs.
• Attends to care needs (feeding, toileting, clothing changes) with dignity and safety.
• Ensures safety and well-being of participants during program hours.
• Dispenses and administers participant medications as required.
• Provides lifts and transfers for participants as required.
• Provides behaviour management.
• Maintains effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
• Creates an inclusive, positive program environment where participants strive to participate, perform, and learn.
