Job Description

Manufacturing Technician

The Manufacturing Technician position, under direct supervision, is responsible for assisting with various engineering projects starting from the project origination and carrying through the testing phase. Primarily accountable for planning, developing, and/or evaluating a new project or processes and work with other engineering departments and coordinate their specialized contributions to the development of the project.

Performance Expectations

  1. Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines.
  2. Machine set-up and programming.
  3. Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as needed.
  4. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  5. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  6. Tool changes.
  7. Perform and document machine tool capability studies.
  8. Ensures that machine settings and programs are adhered to during production as per the Tool List and Cycle Time sheets.
  9. Perform regular machine maintenance.
  10. Must work in compliance to TS 16949 Procedures/Systems.
  11. Housekeeping and light maintenance of the quality assurance work areas.
  12. Refer to assembly drawings and diagrams to follow installation and calibration procedures.
  13. Review tooling lists and tooling sequences sheets.
  14. Confirm dimensions of products using precise measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and angle finders.
  15. Analyze job production data such as production time, material consumption, and first time right for each production area.
  16. Evaluate condition and reliability of production equipment.
  17. Evaluate adequacy of procedures for isolating root cause factors for production deficiencies or decreased product quality.
  18. Discuss planning and implementation of process and production improvements with co-workers, colleagues and managers.

Credentials

  1. Machine license or equivalent education and previous experience.
  2. Certification in industrial engineering or manufacturing technology or in a related field is an asset.
  3. Minimum three years of Set-Up Technician experience in a machine shop, preferably a high volume environment.
  4. Able to modify CNC programs for Machining Centers, Lathes and Special Purpose Machinery.
  5. Knowledge of TS 16949, SPC, and related procedures.
  6. Use computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining.

  1. Able to interact with co-workers such as equipment operators, quality control managers and shop supervisors to share information on equipment modifications and defects.
  2. Able to work independently reviewing production processes and in a team as needed.
  3. Maintain current certifications and engage in continuous learning in order to keep up with new developments in field.
