MD, Business Excellence & Strategy_Schwab Asset Management
Reporting to the President & CEO of Schwab Asset Management, the Managing Director will lead efforts to define, manage, and execute our strategic vision and goals on behalf of our clients. The MD and their team will support senior leaders in this effort while ensuring efficient operations across investment, product, and sales teams, in coordination with finance, technology, marketing, legal, and compliance. This role is part of the senior leadership team for SAM and oversees ETFs, Mutual Funds, and SMA strategies, with leadership responsibilities.
The role can be based in San Francisco, CA, Denver, CO, or Dallas, TX.
Key Outcomes:
- Define and communicate strategic objectives for each SAM business and support their execution.
- Coordinate with internal partners in investment risk, policies, controls, legal, and compliance to meet obligations to the Board and Regulators.
- Develop and implement innovative ideas for products and strategies.
- Manage business activities to ensure projects and delivery stay on track, meeting regulatory, compliance, and risk obligations.
- Represent and support SAM senior leaders with key business partners, including investment risk, legal, compliance, and internal audit, coordinating across Schwab.
- Work with senior leaders to synchronize work, capacity planning, goals, priorities, and dependencies.
- Evaluate strategic opportunities and propose recommendations to senior leadership.
- Implement strategic plans, advising impacted teams on changes like client onboarding, fund launches, and product initiatives.
- Coordinate with SAM Technology on systems support and strategic vision.
- Develop and execute detailed project plans with specific tasks, responsibilities, and involved sites.
- Research issues, gather data, manage workflow, and prepare reports for the CEO.
- Represent SAM with other Managing Directors and departments like Digital Services, Schwab Bank, SPC, legal, compliance, finance, and corporate strategy.
- Collaborate with the CEO to explore new business opportunities and growth areas.
- Implement strategies to maintain workforce resilience, productivity, and company culture in a hybrid work environment.
- Anticipate changes in financial innovation, technology, and regulation, developing proactive plans.
What you have
Required Experience:
- 10+ years in business and operational management within asset management, especially during periods of transformation and complexity.
- Proven record of leading strategic projects across functions and enterprises.
- Strong planning, execution, and problem-solving skills in multi-asset, multi-product firms.
- Experience managing critical processes related to investment, product, and sales, including risk, compliance, and operational issues.
- Understanding of workflows and systems across business areas; hands-on with risk, finance, operations, technology, legal, and compliance teams.
- Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred.
