The Manager, Research Security will be responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing strategies to meet the research security objectives of the University of Regina relating to research and innovation activities. The position will report jointly to the Director, Office of Research Services and Director, Office of Research Partnerships & Innovation. The Manager will serve as a resource to UofR senior leadership (e.g. Deans, Associate Deans Research) for best practices regarding research security, including research partnerships, data governance, and intellectual property. The Manager will ensure awareness, understanding and appropriate application of university and funding agency policies and procedures. The Manager will establish a framework for risk assessments and mitigation plans to assist the UofR research community. Serves the role of Company Security Officer ( CSO ).
What You’ll Do:- Be a champion for research risk management, security and safeguarding of research by providing expert support to the research community.
- Identify, develop and implement institutional strategies and policies to mitigate risk and safeguard research. The position is largely self-directed with emphasis on working collectively with units across campus.
- Provide leadership and vision to bring in key stakeholders and decision-makers by creating and sustaining a “one-stop shop” for all research security related matters and requests, all while ensuring excellent, seamless support is provided to researchers.
- Develop processes, training materials and tools to ensure UofR research is protected through appropriate research security plans and research risk mitigation strategies.
- Vet the partners who work with UofR on research projects and commercialization licenses to reduce reputational damage, risk to our intellectual property and/or loss of revenue.

Position Requirements
What You’ll Bring to this Position:- Master’s degree (thesis based)
- 5 years of related experience in research security within a research intensive, or post-secondary environment or similar complex organization.
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining research security strategies and programs
- Experience in project management and supporting large-scale initiatives
- Knowledge of the political context relevant to research and innovation. Understanding of vulnerabilities to research and innovation security, commercialization, cyber security, intellectual property, and data governance.
- Knowledge of research funding programs, research agreements and commercialization vehicles.
- Knowledge of best practices, trends, legal and legislative frameworks related to research security.
- Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and organizational structures, including governance processes.
- Ability to obtain Government of Canada security clearance
- Knowledge of principles of confidentiality and records management in order to successfully perform the CSO duties
