Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA designation (CFA, CBV designations considered a strong asset).
  • 5+ years of direct M&A transaction experience (private equity, Big 4 advisory, IB, corporate development).

Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of acquisitions from initial evaluation through due diligence and closing.
  • Lead buy-side due diligence and manage information flow across teams and advisors.
  • Evaluate targets using valuation, earnings quality, and financial modeling.
  • Prepare investment materials for stakeholders and communicate key insights clearly.
  • Support deal execution and integration with post-merger teams.

At Westland, we're looking for a Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions to join our team. In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping Westland's growth strategy by leading financial analysis, valuations, due diligence, and transaction execution for acquisitions across Canada. If you're ready to take the deal experience you've built in Big 4 Deal Advisory, Financial Advisory, investment banking, corporate development, or a similar environment and apply it from the corporate side, we'd love to hear from you.

Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $110,400 to $138,000 based on a 40 hour work week. Actual offered salary will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as market conditions for the role, and internal equity.

As Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions, you’ll be instrumental in supporting our acquisition strategy and leading start-to-finish deal execution on buy-side transactions including financial and business due diligence, target valuation and financial modeling, and preparation of transaction documentation. The Manager, M&A will be a key team member of Westland’s active and high performing corporate development team.

Why we’ll love You:

  • You bring 5+ years of direct experience in Mergers & Acquisitions transaction environment, such as private equity, Big 4 Financial Advisory, investment banking, corporate finance, corporate development
  • Your advanced Excel skills and data analysis expertise allow you to uncover valuable insights.
  • You're proficient in PowerPoint and Microsoft Word, helping you craft compelling presentations and documents.
  • Your analytical and critical thinking abilities are exceptional, enabling you to solve complex problems and think outside the box.
  • You excel in interpersonal communication, both verbal and written, making it easy for you to collaborate and share ideas.
  • You are detail-oriented and excel at prioritizing tasks, adapting quickly to changing needs, responsibilities, and environments.
  • You work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and thrive in dynamic environments.

Once here, you'll:

  • Drive the execution of acquisition opportunitiesfrom initial evaluation through due diligence, negotiation, and closing, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to keep transactions moving forward.
  • Lead and coordinate buy-side due diligence, managing information flow across functional teams, target stakeholders, and advisors while identifying key risks, opportunities, value drivers, and areas requiring further investigation.
  • Evaluate potential acquisition targets and strategic opportunities, leveraging valuation, quality of earnings analysis, normalization adjustments, synergy assessment, and sophisticated financial modelling to support investment decisions.
  • Build strong relationships and manage stakeholdersacross Senior Leadership, functional teams, target companies, and external legal and financial advisors, ensuring alignment and effective communication throughout the transaction process.
  • Support negotiations and transaction documentation, including developing expressions of interest, letters of intent, and other materials that clearly communicate our commercial objectives and investment rationale.
  • Prepare compelling investment materials for key stakeholders, translating complex financial, commercial, and diligence findings into clear insights, recommendations, and strategic considerations.
  • Support seamless deal execution and integration, coordinating virtual data rooms and deal files while partnering with post-merger integration teams to carry key diligence findings and value creation opportunities through to execution.
