Job summary

Position Summary:

Manages day-to-day Human Resource services for Gordon Food Service (GFS) division, Canada National, or United Trimen. In partnership with local and HR leadership, coordinates best practices in employee relations, total rewards, training and development, recruitment, succession planning, and leadership development, along with building other effective tools needed by GFS management.

Location:

The successful candidate will be required to be in the office 4 days a week and should be able to travel between the GFS Milton DC and the United Trimen North York DC, as required.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops and maintains an HR/hiring plan with division leadership to ensure staffing needs are met.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition during hiring and manages onsite interview and final selection processes.
  • Manages onboarding and orientation for new hires and managers.
  • Provides training to managers on interview skills and performance management processes.
  • Educates and consults leadership on HR policies, employee relations, and the Workday Talent Management Suite.
  • Responds to employee complaints, investigates, and determines appropriate actions.
  • Supports leadership development initiatives and monitors training effectiveness.
  • Ensures proper implementation of compensation practices and assists with annual salary adjustments and bonuses.
  • Supports benefits enrollment and educates employees on retirement plans and wellness initiatives.
  • Supports employee engagement strategies and administers benefits programs.
  • Handles recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management of HR staff.
  • Develops and manages HR department budget and provides insights on HR metrics.
  • Performs administrative HR functions and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, and HR management principles.
  • Proficiency in English; French Canadian required in Quebec.
  • Strong customer service, active listening, and management skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, make decisions, negotiate, and solve complex issues.
  • Understanding of employment laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; HR certifications such as SPHR, PHR, CHRP, or CHRL are a plus.
  • At least five years of progressive HR experience with leadership responsibilities.
