What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Director of Business Risk for RBC Wealth Management and embedded in WM’s 1st line of defense, the Manager Business Risk acts as a trusted adviser to Senior Leaders in WM, particularly within the WM Strategy, Products & Digital Investing (SP&DI) team.

The Manager will assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining RBC’s Operational Risk Framework within this newly established Business Risk team, ensuring alignment with the Enterprise ORM strategy. You will guide leadership within SP&DI on Business Risk management, supporting ORM program activities to enhance their ability to manage risks effectively. Supported WM units include Direct Investing, InvestEase, WM Technology, Global Credit and Cash Management, WM Operational Data and Information, WM Investments, and WM Strategy.

You will be part of a team of experienced Operational Risk professionals responsible for executing RBC’s Operational Risk practices across these businesses. Your role includes data collection, monitoring, and reporting on Risk Appetite processes for RBC Wealth Management globally, including annual updates.

What will you do?

Support the Director and Senior Manager of the WM Business Risk team (supporting SP&DI) to :

  • Implement and ensure compliance with the Operational Risk Framework within SP&DI. Support all aspects of ORM practices, including OREs, Risk Appetite, KRIs, Issues management, IRPs/RTAs, ICMP, RCM, and reporting.
  • Assist in the execution of the RCM program, establishing oversight to ensure adherence to policies and escalation of exceptions.
  • Support updates to RBC’s Internal Control Management Policy in SP&DI, including control assessments and annual attestations to meet policy and regulatory obligations.
  • Innovate in control design and testing methods, leveraging automation and data analytics, and manage the annual assessment plan.
  • Enhance RBC’s Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program in SP&DI, including establishing risk registers and digitizing risk assessments.
  • Develop, track, and report on Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for all SP&DI business units.
  • Ensure compliance with RBC’s Issues Management framework and support project engagement.
  • Provide operational risk impact assessments for major changes, process improvements, and projects (CIRA policy).
  • Maintain key linkages with governance centers, 2LoD Operational Risk, Compliance, and other groups for SP&DI.
  • Perform root cause analyses of major events, product risk reviews, and IRPs.
  • Prepare dashboards and reports for the Director for WM SP&DI governance forums.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 3-4 years of experience in Brokerage, Banking, Operational Risk, Audit, or Compliance.
  • University Degree and relevant industry qualifications (e.g., Securities, Options, Futures, Investment Management).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Tableau, PowerPoint.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Consulting mindset focused on strategic business recommendations.

Nice-to-have

  • Professional designations such as MBA, CPA, CFA.
  • Knowledge of brokerage and banking products and processes.
  • Familiarity with Direct Investing, securities operations, and Canadian investment regulations.
