Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our Parkland on the Glen team. You will perform general maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment and grounds to ensure safe, well-kept environments for residents.

Ideal candidates have 1-2 years' construction or building maintenance experience, knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S, and good English. Certifications in related trades are a plus and clean background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1–2 years’ maintenance/ construction experience
• Knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S legislation
• Advanced English required
• Certifications in related trades are a plus
• Blueprint reading knowledge may help

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment and grounds.
• Repair structures and equipment; respond to maintenance requests.
• Assemble, move, deliver, set up and pick up furniture/equipment.
• Assist in inspections and preventive maintenance programs with the Plant/Building & Safety Manager.
• Use PM Worx to schedule maintenance and process work orders.
• Coordinate materials, supplies, and tools; maintain storage control.
• Participate in safety procedures, drills, and audits.
• Additional duties as assigned

About The Opportunity

• Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds
• Performs general repair work on structures and equipment (responds to maintenance requests)
• Assembles, moves, delivers, sets up and picks up furniture and equipment
• Performs general repair work on structures, patches & paints any damaged walls
• Assists the Plant, Building & Safety Manager in the inspection of buildings, grounds and equipment; carries out preventive maintenance program actions
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and to process work orders
• Requests necessary materials, supplies, parts and tools required and maintains control of storage and use
• Performs and documents internal and external inspections and audits
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and processes work orders through the same program
• Participates in emergency (disaster) plan and mock disaster exercises
• Works in conjunction with Shannex fire and safety policies to help train staff in fire safety techniques; schedules fire drills and evaluates performance effectiveness
• Takes every precaution that is reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees, residents and all others in the workplace
• Additional duties as assigned/required

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A High School Diploma or completion of equivalent education
• 1-2 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance
• Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
• Advanced Proficiency in English required, other languages considered an asset
• Certification in Carpentry, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumbing or Electrical trades considered an asset.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading considered an asset
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check , and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check , prior to appointment
