About The Role

The Maintenance Worker reports to the General Manager, Maintenance Manager, or designate and is responsible for day-to-day maintenance activities to support the efficient operation of the community. The Maintenance Worker assists in ensuring the safety and security of all persons served, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  1. Regular Maintenance, Repairs, and Building Improvements
  • Inspects and logs information on the operating condition of all equipment daily, diagnoses malfunctions, and recommends replacements or upgrades to the Manager.
  • Inspects alarm, call, and security systems and logs information daily.
  • Schedules and supervises service work in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Completes general repairs to electrical, plumbing, and other building components within the capabilities of an experienced maintenance trade person.
  • Be available for emergency call-ins.
  • Maintains a painting/touch-up schedule.

Environmental Issues

  • Implements snow removal and de-icing programs directly or via a contractor as directed. Last reviewed & updated May 2023.
  • Supports the pest control program.
  • Maintains organized and safe work and storage areas.

Fire & Life Safety

  • Assists in fire safety drills and complies with fire regulations.
  • Implements all repair and maintenance activities safely, abiding by Work Safe BC regulations.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family, and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures, safe use of supplies and equipment, reporting repairs, and infection control procedures.

Maintenance Management

  • Maintains a log of daily routines, general repairs, and scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on all equipment.

Team Player

  • Provides support or instruction to staff operating community equipment.
  • Gains knowledge and skills related to maintenance tasks.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
  • Works positively and collaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
  • Maintains a neat appearance, dressed in clean, safe, and presentable clothing, including rubber-soled, steel-toed safety shoes when needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 1-year experience in building or community maintenance.
  • Knowledge of general painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating systems, and gardening.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize maintenance schedules and workload.
  • Professional communication skills with residents, staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Successful applicants must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check per Provincial guidelines.
  • Physical ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs., and work with cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
