Job description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for cleaning and performing minor maintenance and repair duties at our branch facilities. Responsibilities include washing toilets and hand basins, dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing and polishing floors, vacuuming, basic plumbing, minor carpentry and repair work, painting and touch-up work, and maintaining outside grounds. The incumbent also assists Trades Maintenance workers with minor jobs and furniture moves as required.

Job Requirements:

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

• Completion of the tenth school grade and a training course as a Building Service Worker, plus considerable related experience in building trades and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance, janitorial, and gardening work.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building trades and maintenance.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with library staff.
• Capability to perform carpentry, plumbing, or painting repairs and maintenance not requiring a licensed tradesperson.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in using various hand and power tools.
• Ability to climb ladders and work on scaffolding or in confined spaces.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Driver's license for British Columbia, if applicable.

Additional Information:

• Employment Type: Auxiliary
• Salary: $27.78 to $32.56 per hour
• Work Schedule: Shifts from 4 am to 12 pm, including Mondays through Sundays. Applicants must be available for at least 20 hours per week, including Sundays and Tuesdays. Please specify ongoing availability in your application.
