Job description

Position Title: Maintenance Technician

Competition: 24-93

Reports to: Manager of Maintenance

Union: BCGEU

Compensation: $29.69-$31.97/hour

Schedule: 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday (70 hours bi-weekly)

Status: Full time, Regular

Primary Objectives:
The Maintenance Technician is primarily accountable for fulfilling maintenance work orders according to a prescribed schedule and to meet quality standards established by Property Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. As a member of the Maintenance Team performs a variety of maintenance functions according to maintenance work orders and following an established schedule, including:
  2. Carrying out repairs and other maintenance activities as required such as plumbing, appliance, drywall, painting and minor electrical repairs;
  3. Residential installation and assembly including: doors, blinds, etc.;
  4. Posting a variety of notices as instructed by the Property Services Coordinator or by the Manager of Maintenance, such as Notice To End Tenancy and Notices To Enter, in compliance with the Residential Tenancy Act;
  5. Cleaning and repairing units upon turnover and according to the Society's specifications;
  6. Immediately reporting safety or accident/injury incidents to the Manager of Maintenance or to the Property Services Coordinator;
  7. Completing required paperwork such as maintenance work orders and mileage claims and submitting to the Manager of Maintenance;
  8. Maintaining cordial and cooperative relationships with Supportive Housing staff and with the tenants of Pacifica Housing;
  9. Work independently to meet deadlines and complete assignments as arranged;
  10. Report to the Manager of Maintenance regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress.

Requirements:
Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Education:
  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience:
  1. Experience as a maintenance technician or other similar position, preferably in a non-profit housing environment;
  2. Demonstrated experience in a building maintenance role;
  3. Experience using hand and electrical tools;
  4. Preferred 2 years' experience doing suite renovations/ building maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Ability to demonstrate skills in residential building maintenance including carpentry, plumbing and electrical is required;
  2. General proficiency using a mobile phone to e-mail, text, call, and manage calendar appointments;
  3. Must have trade skills including painting, drywall patching and installation, door hardware repairs, flooring, and carpentry repairs.

Additional Criteria for Role:
  1. Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required before employment commences;
  2. Must have valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2 million liability ‘business class' insurance;
  3. Must be available to be on call in off hours for emergency call out;
  4. Must hold a Basic First Aid Certificate.

Any offer of employment is contingent on the applicant providing proof of criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
