Position Overview

Oversees and performs functions related to the design, maintenance, documentation, programming, and implementation of Traffic Control systems. Supervises up to four journeymen and contractors in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Traffic Signals electronics and electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, assign, review, and participate in work with team members and contractors.
  • Manage schedules, procedures, and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Provide employee training and participate in performance appraisals.
  • Design, review, and estimate Traffic Signal electronic/electrical systems for projects.
  • Maintain records, reports, and as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate with external agencies like BC Hydro, engineers, and the public.
  • Prioritize and organize work in the Traffic Signal shop.
  • Evaluate technical information and recommend equipment acquisitions.
  • Create and modify design specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure conformance to standards and safety regulations.
  • Prepare reports, drawings, and procurement documents.
  • Coordinate with various municipal, provincial, and utility agencies.

  • MMCD, IMSA standards, BC amendments
  • City of Victoria policies and safety programs
  • Workers’ Compensation Act and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
  • B.E.W. Local 230 collective agreement
Additional Requirements
  • Own vehicle required: No
  • Normal hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Adverse conditions: Emergency callouts, confined spaces, work in all weather, near traffic, heights
Qualifications
  • High school diploma; technical diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or Electrician certification
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
  • IMSA Traffic Signals Level 3 certification
  • 4+ years related experience, supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Traffic Signal operations, electrical systems, wireless tech, and safety procedures
