Job summary

Pier 4 in Nova Scotia seeks an experienced Maintenance Technician to uphold high workmanship and resident satisfaction across multiple properties.

You will perform preventive maintenance, repairs, renovations, and responsive service, including plumbing, electrical, and general building upkeep. Own cordless tools and have 2+ years of residential maintenance experience. Ontario license is an asset. On‑call rotations apply, lifting up to 50 lbs allowed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist with operation of building systems (electrical, mechanical, boiler, elevator, fire safety, sprinkler, timers).
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and after‑hours emergencies.

Reporting to the Property Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for preserving the condition of our properties through preventative maintenance, repairs, renovations, and responsive residential service. This role is ideal for a proactive, solution-oriented professional who enjoys hands‑on work, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is committed to maintaining properties to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Respond to resident service requests and maintenance concerns within 24 hours, ensuring a high standard of customer service and regular communication with the Property Manager.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and follow established daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules.
  • Repair, renovative, and prepare vacant and occupied residential units, as well as common areas.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs, including fixture replacement, basic troubleshooting, and general maintenance work.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and curb appeal of the property through activities such as litter collection, sweeping, lawn care, snow removal, and other exterior maintenance duties.
  • Monitor and assist with operation of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, boiler, elevator, fire safety, sprinkler, and timer systems.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation and respond to after‑hours maintenance emergencies as required.
  • Travel between multiple properties within the portfolio to support operational needs. Approved car allowance compensation.
Crucial Knowledge, Skills
  • Must own personal cordless hand and power tools necessary to perform the duties of this role.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

Education & Experience Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of residential maintenance, property maintenance, building operations or related experience.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and assess to a reliable vehicle.
  • Eligible to work in Canada and successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Demonstrated experience performing general repairs, preventative maintenance, renovations, and suite turnover work.
  • Knowledge of applicable Ontario residential tenancy legislation and landlord-tenant relations is considered an asset.
Additional Details
  • Competitive Salary Range: $45,000 – 65,000.
  • Work Arrangement: Fully on‑site, 5 days a week at our Nova Scotia locations.
