Job summary

Sofina Foods Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Technician – Hatchery in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. You will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize hatchery equipment and facility infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient operations and maximize hatchability.

You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and work with contractors to support continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring biosecurity and reliability across HVAC, water treatment, conveyors, and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Technical diploma or certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, or related field.
• 2-5 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience in poultry, food processing, agriculture, hatchery, manufacturing, or other production environments considered an asset.
• Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• Good attendance and reliability are essential.
• Critical thinker with the ability to develop and initiate action plans to meet deadlines and achieve results while respecting core values.
• Problem solving ability to identify the elements of a problem situation and understand which components are critical.
• Must be motivated and require minimum supervision in performing job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities according to established maintenance programs, including maintaining records and work orders.
• Identify equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
• Inspect, maintain and repair incubators, hatchers, egg handling systems and other related equipment.
• Inspect, maintain and repair mechanical systems including pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors and pneumatic systems. Assist with boiler inspections.
• Maintain loading bay equipment, dock systems, and facility handling equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical and control systems, replace defective components and light fixtures. Collaborate with licensed electricians to address issues.
• Conduct routine inspections of utilities and facility infrastructure including inspections of generators, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, RO stems and chemical storage area.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and operational disruptions by diagnosing maintenance failures and performing repairs to minimize downtime.
• Participates in hatchery rotation duties as required.

Maintenance Technician – Hatchery – Wynyard, Saskatchewan

Job purpose

The Hatchery Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing hatchery equipment, building systems, and facility infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted hatchery operations. This role performs preventive maintenance, responds to equipment breakdowns, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to maximize hatchability, biosecurity, safety, and operational reliability.

This role works closely with all other hatchery functions and external contractors to maintain critical systems including incubation equipment, HVAC systems, water treatment equipment, electrical systems, conveyors, generators, and mechanical equipment.

Working conditions

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (23 kg) regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in varying temperature and humidity conditions common in hatchery environments.
