Job summary

Sunrise Farms in Alberta is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the plant with high-level maintenance expertise. You will perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and safety-compliant work across production and facility areas.

The role requires a 12th grade education and a trade certification (millwright/industrial mechanic/power engineer) with 1–3 years of mechanical experience. Overtime and on-call duties apply as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 1–3 years related experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience in a Food Processing Plant is an asset.
  • CMMS experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with company safety, regulations and environmental requirements.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on production machines, bearings, seals and alignment.
  • Maintain RTU filters, belts and general maintenance.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance in production and common areas.
  • Diagnose faults using appropriate tools and preventive maintenance methods.
  • Use hand and power tools to build components and assist in installations.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure safeguarding and functionality (sensors, switches, etc.).
  • Plan and organize all aspects of work efficiently; keep work areas clean and safe.

Role:

To assist the Maintenance Team in providing the plant with a high level of maintenance expertise, that ensures departmental downtime, meets Company objectives efficiently and to carry out equipment and building repairs as required, while adhering to quality, safety and legislative guidelines.

Schedule :

Dayshift & Nightshift

Responsibilities:
  • Comply with the company safety, federal, state and local regulations, plus environmental requirements
  • Performs all tasks as per recommended job methods, procedures, etc., particularly on the repair installation of production machines, bearings, seals and their alignment
  • Maintenance of RTU filters, belts and general maintenance
  • Carries out preventive maintenance tasks to Production & common areas
  • Diagnose complex and common faults of mechanical equipment by inspecting and using appropriate tools of preventive maintenance
  • Through familiarity, knowledge and uses of power and hand tools and equipment in a skillful, efficient manner, maintaining them in clean operating condition. Uses hand and power tools to build buggies, carts, airlines, castors and rails
  • Replacement of solenoids, motors, pumps and gearboxes
  • Inspect equipment to ensure all safeguarding is in place and functional, including safety sensors, limit switches and photo-eyes
  • Electrical knowledge to replace lamps, ballasts and familiarity with thermostats and sensors
  • Plans and organize all aspects of work and job assignments, in an efficient and productive way
  • Maintains work areas in clean and safe conditions, removing all waste on completion of work, or earlier if necessary
  • Reports all defects, errors in production, and machines which may affect the workplace to the Maintenance Supervisor/Operations Manager
  • Performs and assists in other maintenance duties as required
  • Work closely with contractors and oversees activities as required. Provides resource support as required
  • Completes tasks at the request of the Maintenance Manager/Operations Manager
Requirements:
  • Maintains prompt and courteous response to production team requests within the guidelines set forth by Sunrise Poultry, Lethbridge
  • Trade Certification in one of the following: millwright, industrial mechanic or power engineer
  • Must Perform Overtime, Weekend work and On-Call/Support as required
  • Shift Work as required
  • Grade 12 education
  • Have 1 to 3 years related experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in a Food Processing Plant is an asset
  • Experience with Live Animals and proper care and handling asset
  • Be success-driven and have a "can do" attitude
  • Be able to work independently, as well as being a strong team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a good safety record and work ethic
  • Flexible and adaptable in ever-changing environments
  • CMMS Experience
