Job summary

Canada Packers is hiring a Maintenance Technician to support South Central operations across East Manitoba sites. You will perform general maintenance, carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing and welding to keep livestock facilities safe and functional.

The role requires flexibility to travel to multiple farm sites, some overnight stays, and adherence to biosecurity and safety regulations. A Grade 12 diploma and 1–3 years of maintenance experience are preferred, with Microsoft Office skills

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma; trade-related post-secondary education is an asset.
  • 1–3 years of general maintenance experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
  • Valid driver’s license with travel, including overnight stays within MB and possible travel to SK.
  • Self-directed, motivated team player with attention to detail.
  • Comfortable in livestock (hog) farm environments.
  • Ability to follow biosecurity and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance across multiple sites.
  • Carpentry repairs (wall tin, doors, plywood, walls, ceilings).
  • Drywall repairs and painting.
  • Basic plumbing tasks.
  • Move furniture and equipment.
  • Clean and organize work areas.
  • Basic welding on stalls, crates, and penning.
  • Install and maintain barn equipment and facilities components.
  • Support preventative maintenance on tractors and farm equipment.
  • Contribute to the preventative maintenance program with improvements.
  • Complete work orders and site visits efficiently.
  • Document completed and outstanding work orders.
  • Address maintenance deficiencies using best practices.
  • Conduct facility and equipment assessments or audits.
  • Respond to production and maintenance calls to minimize downtime.
  • Provide on-the-job training to barn staff.

Looking for a hands‑on maintenance role where no two days are the same? As a Maintenance Technician supporting our South Central operations, you’ll play a key role in keeping our livestock facilities safe, functional, and running efficiently.

Responsibilities:

This position provides general maintenance support across multiple sites, and your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:

  • Performing general carpentry repairs (wall tin, doors, plywood, walls, ceilings, etc.).
  • Completing drywall repairs and painting.
  • Handling basic plumbing tasks.
  • Moving furniture and equipment as required.
  • Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining work areas.
  • Performing basic welding on stalls, crates, and penning.
  • Installing and maintaining barn equipment and facilitycomponents (feeders, feed and water lines, animal stalls, etc.).
  • Supporting preventative maintenance on tractors and farm equipment, as needed.
  • Actively contributing to the preventative maintenance program by providing improvement recommendations.
  • Completing scheduled work orders and site visits efficiently.
  • Documenting completed and outstanding work orders accurately.
  • Applying best practices to address maintenance deficiencies.
  • Conducting facility and equipment assessments or audits.
  • Responding promptly to production and maintenance calls to minimize downtime.
  • Providing on‑the‑job training to barn staff and other employees.
  • Supporting additional maintenance duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Proof of eligibility may be requested during the recruitment process.

  • Grade 12 diploma (trade‑related post‑secondary education is considered an asset).
  • One to three years of experience in general maintenance
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays within MB and possible travel to SK.
