Job summary

Canada Packers Inc. is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to keep livestock facilities safe, functional, and running efficiently across our South Central operations.

You will work in farm and barn environments, performing repairs, preventive maintenance, and hands-on tasks that require adaptability and a practical mindset. The role involves rotating shifts, travel to different sites, and opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement while ensuring safety and biosecurity guidelines

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma required; trade-related post-secondary education asset.
• 1–3 years of general maintenance experience.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform general carpentry repairs (walls, doors, etc.).
• Complete drywall repairs and painting.
• Handle basic plumbing tasks.
• Move furniture and equipment as required.
• Maintain work areas and cleaning routines.
• Perform basic welding on stalls, crates, and penning.
• Install and maintain barn equipment and facility components.
• Support preventative maintenance on tractors and farm equipment.
• Contribute to preventative maintenance program with improvements.
• Complete scheduled work orders and site visits.
• Document completed and outstanding work orders accurately.
• Apply best practices to address maintenance deficiencies.
• Conduct facility and equipment assessments or audits.
• Respond promptly to production and maintenance calls to minimize downtime.
• Provide on-the-job training to barn staff.
• Support additional maintenance duties as assigned.

About This Opportunity

Location: East Manitoba Region (Petersfield/ Clandeboye/ Balmoral/ Selkirk, and surrounding area)

Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Salary: Competitive compensation based on experience

Schedule: Rotating shifts that include weekends, and holidays.

Looking for a hands-on maintenance role where no two days are the same? As a Maintenance Technician supporting our South Central operations, you’ll play a key role in keeping our livestock facilities safe, functional, and running efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Performing general carpentry repairs (wall tin, doors, plywood, walls, ceilings, etc.).
• Completing drywall repairs and painting.
• Handling basic plumbing tasks.
• Moving furniture and equipment as required.
• Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining work areas.
• Performing basic welding on stalls, crates, and penning.
• Installing and maintaining barn equipment and facility components (feeders, feed and water lines, animal stalls, etc.).
• Supporting preventative maintenance on tractors and farm equipment, as needed.
• Actively contributing to the preventative maintenance program by providing improvement recommendations.
• Completing scheduled work orders and site visits efficiently.
• Documenting completed and outstanding work orders accurately.
• Applying best practices to address maintenance deficiencies.
• Conducting facility and equipment assessments or audits.
• Responding promptly to production and maintenance calls to minimize downtime.
• Providing on-the-job training to barn staff and other employees.
• Supporting additional maintenance duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Proof of eligibility may be requested during the recruitment process.

• Grade 12 diploma (trade-related post-secondary education is considered an asset).
• One to three years of experience in general maintenance
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays within MB and possible travel to SK.
• Self-directed, motivated team player with strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a livestock (hog) farm environment.
• Ability to adhere to all biosecurity requirements and health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work at various heights and in confined spaces.
