Job summary

West Fraser in Edson, Alberta, is hiring a Maintenance Supervisor – Lumber Mill to lead the maintenance team in a fast-paced, safety‑driven environment. The role focuses on safe, reliable operation of all mill equipment and facilities, with ongoing improvement and cost-conscious decision making.

You will coach a skilled team, coordinate daily work, manage CMMS workflows, and collaborate with Operations, Planning and Quality to meet mill objectives.

Qualifications

  • Certified Millwright or recognized trade certification with 5+ years of industrial experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of maintenance supervisory experience in an industrial or lumber mill environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance knowledge.
  • Experience with reliability-centered maintenance programs (preventative and predictive maintenance).
  • Proficient with CMMS systems and MS Office tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture; ensure maintenance follows mill standards, LOTO, and regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Lead and develop a maintenance team through coaching, clear expectations, and accountability.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance to improve uptime.
  • Use CMMS to manage work orders, asset history, and documentation.
  • Drive reliability through root-cause and gap analysis and long-term corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Reliability, Planning, Quality, Procurement, and Projects.
  • Manage department budgets and control maintenance costs.

We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team in a fast-paced lumber mill environment. This hands-on leadership role is critical to ensuring the safe,reliable, and efficient operation of all mill equipment and facilities. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, strong problem-solver, and effective people leader with a passion for teamwork,reliability, and continuous improvement.

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all maintenance activities comply with mill standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, Safe Work Practices, and regulatory requirement
