Job summary

West Fraser invites applications for an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) at our Edson division in Edson, Alberta. You will contribute to our continuous maintenance program by troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance to keep production equipment running.

The ideal candidate will hold a Journeyperson Millwright certification and can read blueprints and schematics. You must be able to work rotating shifts and communicate effectively in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial Journeyperson Millwright Certification is required.
  • Reading blueprints, plans and schematics is essential.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Commitment to safety and creating a safe workplace is expected.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  • Organizational and planning skills are needed.
  • Flexible schedule for day, evening, weekend and graveyard shifts are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings and hydraulics in the manufacturing process.
  • Undertake preventative maintenance program for equipment.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to repair equipment.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery during assembly, installation, setup and repair.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment and repair as required.
  • Repair and assemble hydraulic equipment and cylinders.
  • Verify and document repairs made.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and savings.

As the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), you will be a key player in our continuous maintenance improvement program through daily troubleshooting and preventative maintenance strategies. You will work up to a shift millwright in the sawmill to troubleshoot and repair production equipment and maintain uptime in the facilities during production shifts.

You'll Do:

  • Maintenance of pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings and hydraulics involved in the manufacturing process.

You have:

Considered a strong asset:

  • Previous experience working in a sawmill or planer mill
  • A Red Seal Certificate
  • A Welding Certificate
  • Knowledge of hydraulics
