Job summary

West Fraser's Edson division seeks a Head Electrician to lead an electrical crew in a fast-paced industrial setting. You will supervise maintenance activities, enforce safety policies, and collaborate with Production, Technical and Purchasing to keep mill equipment running efficiently.

The role requires a strong electrical background, excellent communication and supervisory abilities, and a focus on safety, reliability and cost control. Join a committed team in Edson, Alberta.

Qualifications

• Must hold a journeyman electrician certificate.
• Strong electrical background with manufacturing equipment.
• Experience in decision making and troubleshooting, with proven problem solving.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise an electrical crew to deliver safe, efficient maintenance services.
• Enforce safe work practices, train staff, and investigate incidents.
• Coordinate with Production, Technical and Purchasing to maintain mill equipment.
• Schedule and manage work orders, shutdowns and breakdown responses.
• Lead major maintenance projects and coordinate preventive/predictive programs.
• Assist in budgeting for mechanical, maintenance and capital costs.

Job description

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Edson division is currently recruiting for a Head Electrician.

As a member of our management team, you will be reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent. Your responsibilities include supervising a high performing electrical crew to provide safe and efficient services to the division.

You’ll Do:

• Ensure a safe work environment for the Maintenance department by enforcing safe work practices, supporting company policies, investigating incidents, and ensuring proper training and adherence to electrical best practices
• Work collaboratively with Production, Technical and Purchasing departments to effectively maintain mill equipment
• Manage, schedule and supervise a crew, including work orders, priorities, shutdowns, breakdowns
• Manage major maintenance projects
• Work with reliability engineer(s) to coordinate preventative and predictive maintenance programs
• Initiate mechanical expense and capital budgets and oversee all maintenance costs

You have:

• A journey trade certificate
• A strong electrical background knowledge and familiarity with manufacturing equipment
• Experience in decision making with proven trouble shooting skills
• 5-8 years of experience is preferred

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Innovative supervisory & mentorship skills
• Experience promoting a team culture with well-established organizational skills
• Experience in maintenance and a demonstrated passion for electrical systems
• Experience in an industrial environmental with PLC’s, VFD’s, MCC’s, and HMI’s
• Ability to think outside the box with strong problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office, CMMS systems
• Preference may be given to candidates with experience and qualifications in the forest industry
