Job description

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership to the maintenance department through overseeing the development of technical maintenance systems and cultural growth of the team members. He/she is the Reliability Pillar Leader and is responsible for improving plant availability, asset utilization, efficiency and capability by implementing proven professional maintenance and reliability centered improvement processes. He/she ensures both reactive and proactive maintenance support to all plant customers and is responsible for department budgeting, professional and technical development of his/her assigned salaried and hourly reports, and highly involved in plant capital expenditure projects.

  • Continuous Improvement: To be the champion of reliability centered maintenance activities, utilizing the professional maintenance World Class Manufacturing techniques in driving equipment reliabilities to the highest possible levels
  • Systems Development: Oversight of the preventive/predictive maintenance systems/program development (including failure analysis and CMMS development). Implement, coach, monitor and continually improve the system. Ability to work within an SAP environment.
  • Change Agent: Provides leadership, through guidance and oversight, to the cultural and technical growth of the department team members. Motivates, coaches and develops a diverse, high performing and engaged team to meet established goals and build organizational capability and mindset to function within a reliability centered organization.
  • Technical problem solving: Provides technical guidance and coaching on technical problem solving using WCM tools to ensure root cause of issues are identified, eliminated and sustained to improve equipment reliability and capability.
  • Maintenance: To manage the maintenance organization responsible for all plant physical assets including building, grounds, machinery and equipment.
  • Engineering Advancement: To manage plant engineering activities, covering design, cost estimation, request submissions, selection/construction, and compliance with local, provincial and federal, safety, environmental, health and fire prevention standards.
  • Financial: Responsible for contributing to budget preparation, capex planning and department long range planning.
  • Customers and Contacts: Collaborates with all plant and corporate functions in the coordination and scheduling of plant repairs, equipment modifications or installations; purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and capital request data; and corporate engineering on special projects. Active member of the plant leadership team
  • Safety: Accountable for safe maintenance activities. Promote, tech and improve safety systems and procedures for all employees. Implement and ensure compliance to Company safety policies through proper training and accountability of personnel. Actively participates as a member of the plant Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Inventory Control: Develops and continuously improves spare parts inventory and control, ensuring alignment with plant equipment requirements.
TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS FORGOTTEN
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Expected to have 5-10 years professional experience with a minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience in progressive roles. Knowledge of plant engineering/maintenance disciplines, such as automated control systems, programmable logic controllers safety regulations, and practices preferably in a continuous, 27/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills including people development, conflict management and collaborative decision making skills.
  • Must demonstrate successful leadership and change agent skills in a unionized environment
  • Must be well versed and be able to demonstrate success in building and working within reliability engineering systems/programs focused on maximizing plant reliability.
  • Must have demonstrated success working in a company with continuous improvement culture/mindset.
  • Requires proven leadership skills, strong people development, coaching and collaborative decision-making capability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills through all levs of the organization.
  • Must have excellent trouble shooting skills and demonstrable ability in FMEA techniques.
  • Must show adaptability, customer and supplier focus.
  • Proficient use of digital tools. Microsoft Office 365, SAP, or other CMMS etc..
