Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is seeking a Maintenance Coordinator to support the Glasgow Enhanced Care team. You will perform general maintenance, schedule preventive work, and monitor safety regulations to protect residents and staff.

Ideal candidates have a Journeyman Trade Certificate in a building trades field and practical knowledge of heating, ventilation, and building systems, with strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and asset maintenance software.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in building maintenance or construction.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking software such as Asset Planner.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and occupational safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment, and grounds.
• Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations; reports and mitigates risks.
• Manages operating budget for plant and building services; prepares purchase orders and approves invoices.
• Uses PM Worx for preventive maintenance schedules and work orders.
• Participates in emergency/disaster drills and firesafety training.

About The Opportunity

• Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds
• Conducts routine and follow-up inspections to determine compliance with Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations, chemical and general safety standards; submits reports and makes recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to minimize potential safety, health and environmental risks
• Maintains current knowledge of changes in provincial, federal, OHS and other safety codes and regulations as applicable
• Administers the operating budget for plant and building services; prepares purchase orders, verifies and approves invoices for payment
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and processes work orders through the same program
• Participates in emergency (disaster) plan and mock disaster exercises
• Works in conjunction with Shannex fire and safety policies to help train staff in fire safety techniques; schedules fire drills and evaluates performance effectiveness

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• Journeyman Trade Certificate in one of the Buildings Trades or equivalent experience in building maintenance or construction.?
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the building/mechanical trades
• Knowledge of heating, ventilating and lighting systems used in the facility
• Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
• A clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening upon hire
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Assets

• 2+ years’ experience working in building maintenance or construction
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Maintenance Tracking software such as Asset Planner
• Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment
