Job summary

Fresh Prep in Vancouver is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of facility and production equipment. You will troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems, with a focus on minimizing downtime and complying with safety standards.

The role requires hands-on experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work a weekend schedule with travel as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair facility and equipment issues, including HVAC malfunctions, plumbing leaks, electrical faults, and production equipment breakdowns.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facility electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to proactively identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritizing tasks to reduce operational disruption.
  • Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery and facility systems.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance services.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment logs, and spare parts inventory using CMMS.
  • Follow safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and maintain building infrastructure such as lighting, doors, loading docks, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Support facility audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.

Who You Are

We are seeking a skilled Facilities and Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety, and efficiency of both facility systems and production equipment. The technician will play a key role in minimizing downtime, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems, along with strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility and equipment issues, including HVAC malfunctions, plumbing leaks, electrical faults, and conveyor or production equipment breakdowns.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facility electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to proactively identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritizing tasks to reduce operational disruption.

  • Follow safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols, and maintain compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain building infrastructure, such as lighting, doors, loading docks, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Support facility audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
What We Are Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a facilities or maintenance technician, or in a similar role.
  • Strong working knowledge of facility systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing production and building equipment.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools, equipment, safety protocols, and CMMS software.
  • Additional certifications in trades, electrical, HVAC, or other technical areas are considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills to prioritize tasks independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs (~23 kg).
  • Ability to work in varied environments, including indoors, outdoors, and temperature‑controlled spaces (coolers and freezers), as well as active construction sites during renovations.
  • Willingness to travel to primary and secondary site locations as required.
  • Ability to work a weekend schedule and flexibility to work after‑hours as needed.
  • Ability to meet floor safety requirements, including wearing steel‑toed safety boots, coats/smocks, and gloves.
What You Can Expect
  • A wage of $25.50 to $28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • A full‑time schedule working Thursday to Monday, 8am - 4pm
